18 years of moving from state to state (including Utah, Colorado, and New Jersey) with his family + 1 year of college in Provo + 2 years of serving a mission in Brazil + 2 mischievous years of college with Mark Scurr in Provo + (26 years of being a dad + 2 years of being a grandpa = 28 years of blissful marriage) = the number of years that makes up Dad.
